
Spring Fling auction and dinner tonight


The Atlantic Salmon Museum in Doaktown will host their annual Spring Fling auction and fundraising dinner tonight (May 2). The event will get underway at 6:15 p.m. with Fish Tales and an ongoing silent auction. A prime rib dinner will be served at 7 p.m., followed by an auction of private fishing waters and other items at 9 p.m. The evening's entertainment will remain a surprise. Tickets are $30 each. Every Friday night at the Dungarvon Whooper Lounge in Blackville, a jam session is held from 7:30-10:30 p.m. Admission is $2, and everyone is welcome.
May 3
Saturday (May 3) is the last date to purchase tickets for the Mother's Day Dinner Theatre featuring Mike Bravener at the Doaktown Legion on May 10. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and includes a chicken breast with lemon sauce, mashed potatoes, vegetables and dessert. Immediately following dinner, Mike Bravener will perform a tribute to Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash. Admission is $20 per person, which includes the dinner and show. A hot/cold buffet will be held at St. Andrew's United Church Hall in Blackville on Saturday at 6 p.m. There will be entertainment and a silent auction. The cost is $10, and tickets may be purchased by calling Marsha Duffy at 843-2525, Penny Curtis at 843-2354 or Fred Kennedy at 843-7766.

There will be a gospel concert at the Lions Club in Boiestown on Saturday at 7 p.m. featuring Erdie and Julie Price, The Gospel Connection, The Revival Men Quartet, and The Guiggeys. There will be a free will offering, and the canteen will be open. All proceeds will go to the CIBC Run for the Cure.

Old Country from Bass River will be performing at Miramichi's Country Music Opry in Red Bank on Saturday at 8 p.m. Make sure to stop by and enjoy the fun. The Opry is located at 1720 Route 420 in Red Bank.

The Renous Rec. Center is the place to be on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the giant indoor yard sale and barbecue. All proceeds will go to the Miramichi Girl Guides Europe Trip 2010 — two leaders and 12 girls from Blackville Girl Guides and Pathfinders will be participating in this trip.
May 6
World Asthma Day is May 6. In partnership with the Central Miramichi Community Health Centre, the Doaktown Pharmasave will host Kelly Gilmore, Respiratory Therapist, at the Drug Store. Book an appointment between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. to review asthma medications and puffer use with Kelly by phoning the Pharmasave at 365-7824. Drop by in the afternoon between 1-3 p.m. to talk to Kelly to find out what is new in asthma education and to have a spirometry test done.

Jam sessions are held every Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in the Nelson Community Hall. Bud McDonald and the Good Old Boys provide the entertainment. All are welcome to join in the musical fun.

Ladies Auxiliary Bingo is held in the Doaktown Legion every Tuesday at 7 p.m.
May 7
Babies in the Library, a free four-week program for parents and their babies up to 18 months old, will be held at the Doaktown Community School Library on Wednesday mornings, May 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 11-11:30 a.m. Babies can enjoy lap rhymes, stretches, tickles, bounces, songs and a time to share books. Please call 365-2018 to register by May 5, as the program capacity is 15 babies and the minimum is five.

Take part in the Wednesday night jam sessions at the Miramichi Country Music Opry. Sit back and listen to the music or join in by playing a musical instrument. The fun gets underway at 7:30 p.m.

Every Thursday evening from 8-10 p.m., enjoy live entertainment at the Nine Pine Truck Stop in Blackville.

There will be a yard and food sale at the Orange Hall in McNamee on May 10 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

A retirement party for Roderick Price will be held at the Doaktown Curling Club on May 10 from 1-3 p.m.
May 16 - 18
"Back to the River Festival" — the first annual Southwest Miramichi celebration welcoming back the salmon and the "sports," takes place from May 16-18. The event will get underway with a country music showcase on May 16 at 7 p.m. at the Woodmen's Museum in Boiestown. On May 17 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., participate in the area's first ever 100 kilometre craft, food and yard sale. To wrap up the festivities, an outdoor gospel concert and family barbecue will take place at the Atlantic Salmon Museum on May 18 beginning at 4 p.m.
