Fitch folds

It’s one of the biggest nothing stories out there. The Progressive Conservatives are having a leadership race to replace Bernard Lord now two years gone. They have the bad misfortune of having their leadership vote a few days after the federal election so generating excitement is difficult to say the least.

One of the candidates, Bruce Fitch (never cared for the guy personally has pulled the ripcord and has CBC’s Jacques Poitras tonight asking "Why now?"

I suspect many New Brunswickers are asking, “Who cares?”

The CBC blog dedicated to the issue has received the grand sum of one comment on the issue. Granted, that’s not a true indicator of a blog’s success. Blogs generally tend to receive one or two comments for every 100 visits and then there’s the inconsistent policy for commentators on this one particular CBC blog that might be stopping people from speaking out. However, I lean more towards a lack of excitement for the “race”.

A lot can happen in two years but regardless of which candidate wins, I’ll be surprised if Shawn Graham isn’t still premier after the next election with even more seats. The next P.C. leader has to provide opposition, yes, but he also has to provide alternatives to whatever the government is proposing, something the PC’s have in two years largely failed to do.
