One of the most troubling side effects of treatment for cancer patients is hair loss. Having a wig during this challenging time in a patient's life can boost their confidence and improve their attitude. Pantene's Beautiful Lengths Campaign was created to support women during the greatest fight of their life. Miramichi's Creative Fitness and Genesis Salon and Spa have partnered to bring this program to Miramichi.

On Friday, June 20, the first hair-cutting ceremony in Miramichi will take place during the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Isabelle Matchett of Creative Fitness is hoping to help at least one cancer patient.

"It takes approximately six donations to make one wig. Stylists from Genesis will be at the Relay to cut the hair and then we will send it to Ontario, where it will be crafted into beautiful wigs. The Canadian Cancer Society helps to distribute the wigs across Canada to women with cancer".

Anyone can donate their hair provided they have at least eight inches to give and that it hasn't been colored or permed.

Matchett adds, "We are so excited about this program and hope to make it an annual event".

Those interested in participating can call 778-5705 or e-mail creativefitness@rogers.com.
