Indoor yard sale set to take place today at Napan Hall

The 2008 spring lobster season officially got underway at 6 a.m. on Sunday, May 4. It was a very foggy morning and not as many people as usual on the wharf to see the lobster fisherman off, but still the excitement and anticipation could be felt in the air as the boats revved up their engines and headed out of the harbour. The catch on Monday was good, but still no price has been determined for the lobster as of Tuesday evening.

Local Service Spring Clean-Up
The week of May 26-30 has been selected for the Spring Special Pick-up. This is for white goods only (fridges, stoves, washers, dryers, deep freezers, air conditions, scrap metals, etc.). Our garbage man wishes to inform residents of the local service district that he cannot accept frames from motorized vehicles (snowmobiles, lawnmowers, snow blowers, etc.). Make sure that there is no wet paint in the paint cans.
Residents are also advised not to put out ashes in their waste. This is not permitted under the provincial garbage regulation and is a safety factor for the haulers as it has caused garbage trucks to catch on fire.
Open House
Family and friends are invited to an Open House in honour of Dougald and Minnie Fowlie's 50th wedding anniversary. This celebration will be held on Saturday, May 10, from 2-4 p.m. at 354 Air Force Crescent at Retirement Miramichi. Best Wishes only.
Miramichi Rural School Events
The students and staff of Miramichi Rural School have been busy working on different activities over the past few months. Approximately 40 students participated in the "30 Hour Famine" and raised a huge sum of money — $2,731! Farmer Smith has been at the school over the past three weeks with his CARE project. CARE represents "Chicks Awaken Respect and Empathy" and follows many of the current programs underway at the school (Roots of Empathy and Random Acts of Kindness) which are aimed at providing a safe, positive and productive learning environment. The chicks should be hatching within the next few days, and excitement is building within the student body as they wait for this event to take place.
Miss MacKenzie's Kindergarten and Grade 1 class have won their third Mango Mania Challenge. On Wednesday, May 21, from 12:30-2:30 p.m., there will be a showcase of student work and projects in the gym at Miramichi Rural School. Parents and the community are invited to visit and enjoy the art, music and project-work of the students. Students will be participating in the STOP Fair (Student Talent on Parade) on May 14-15 at the Eco Centre in French Fort Cove. The theme of this year's fair is "Music of the People." The Drama Club has been busy practicing for the upcoming Provincial Drama Festival in Fredericton.
Napan Home and School Association
The May meeting of the Napan Home and School will be held on May 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the school. Elections will be held at this meeting.
