Food, shelter will bring birds to your back yard

Create your own bird sanctuary by setting up a living space that's suitable for different species. First, you must attract the birds to your property. To make your property the most attractive in the neighbourhood, you must think about a space for eating, for drinking, for shelter, and for building nests.
The main attraction for a bird is obviously the opportunity to feed itself. Birds need two sources of food: at a feeder and in nature. Depending on the type of bird you want to attract to your garden, there are different types of feed. For example, the cardinal is especially fond of sunflower seeds, while the jay is particular to peanuts.
In your landscaping plan, picture multi-coloured flowers that will attract birds and provide the nectar appreciated by these flying creatures.
It's just as important to have a fountain where birds can drink and wash. The ideal is, of course, a fountain that's equipped with a motor to allow fresh water to circulate. Otherwise, change the water in the fountain every two days and after each rain. At the foot of the fountain, leave a small band of soil bare of vegetation, since birds adore sand baths.
If your property is surrounded by trees and shrubs, you'll have no difficulty attracting your favourite birds. If your land has only a few shrubs, increase your chances by neglecting, yes, neglecting, to trim these shrubs. And finally, don't forget bird houses, such as the super condos for swallows.
