Spinney Brothers at Rogersville Legion Nov. 2
Published Monday October 13th, 2008

Bluegrass music will be ringing loud and clear Sunday, Nov. 2, at the Rogersville Royal Canadian Legion. Performing in concert will be the Spinney Brothers Bluegrass Band.
The Spinney Brothers hail from Wolfville, Nova Scotia, and have long been fan favourites on the Atlantic Canadian bluegrass scene. The Spinney Brothers Bluegrass band is comprised of Allan and Rick Spinney, Gary Dalrymple, and Terry Mumford. Since debuting their band in 1992 the Spinneys quickly became known for their tasteful interpretation of traditional, southern-flavoured bluegrass music. As folklorist Dr. Neil Rosenburg of Memorial University has noted, "the heart of the Spinney's music lies in their duet singing that is as tight as you'll find in bluegrass today."
In the past twelve months, the Spinneys have been keeping very busy. They have toured across Canada and the United States, with performances in Ontario, Quebec, Ohio, Indiana, Missouri and Tennessee. They have had concert bookings with country and bluegrass great Ricky Skaggs, the Grammy-nominated Cherryholmes, and shared bills with bluegrass legends Del McCoury, Larry Sparks, and Bobby Osborne. This summer they made their first appearances in both New York and Texas.
They were recently recognized by the Downeast Bluegrass and Oldtime Music Society. They have been nominated for eight awards at the upcoming Eastern Canadian Bluegrass Music Awards in Truro, N.S., scheduled for Oct. 18. The Spinneys are up for Band of the Year, Recording, Vocal Group, Gospel Performance, Male Vocalist, Bass, Guitar and Mandolin Player of the Year.
In addition to their hectic touring schedule, the Spinney Brothers have been busy in the recording studio. Next month they will head back into the studio to record their fourth recording in the past five years.
Tickets for the Spinney Brothers Nov. 2 show can be purchased in Rogersville at Thebeau Ultramar. Showtime is 2-4:30 p.m.
