Miramichi hasn't grown since it became a city, says council candidate Mark Vautour.

Vautour, 28, is married with a child on the way and owns Victory Sports and the D'Town Pub.

Miramichi has been at a standstill since it became a city, he said.

"We're an asset, not a liability to New Brunswick."

Vautour was born and raised in the Miramichi and although he knows he can't change the world, he said, he does want to do his part.

"I just wanted to make a positive change."

Council needs to make Miramichi more attractive for business, he said.

"Money brings money."

Vautour said he wants to help develop the private sector and make a difference for business.

"Business makes jobs."

As a business owner for nine years in the Miramichi, Vautour said, he can bring business attributes to the council.

"I think I can do a positive for Miramichi."

Vautour said he is young and has the energy to go after things for the Miramichi.

"I'm willing to learn as well as lead."
