There needs to be more economic development in Miramichi, says councillor Martin McIntyre.

McIntyre, 55, is married with five children and has been a city councillor since 1999.

He said small businesses have supported big businesses in the past, but it needs to be the other way around.

"We definitely need to see economic development come to Miramichi."

The city needs to knock on doors to make it known Miramichi is open for business.

"We're just going to keep on knocking until we have more."

McIntyre said as a councillor he will work hard for his constituents.

"That's the only promise I'll make."

One councillor can't make changes alone, because it takes a team effort, he said.

"I've learned to work with the table over the years."

If he is re-elected, McIntyre said, he will have the opportunity to finish projects started by the last council and work on new projects coming to the city.

"It'd be exciting to participate in those projects as well."

I like Marty. Who doesn't? He's a hardworking man who is willing to pull up his sleeves in order to see the Miramichi move forward. He would get my vote if I was home on the River. Now, if only John McKay and Rupert Bernard would both bow out of local politics, then would be hope for some good will around that Council table, some real synergy of common motive to move the City forward. Good for you, Marty. Hang in there.
