Barry MacKenzie, the spokesperson for the Monarchist League of Canada’s New Brunswick chapter, said the diagnosis is “news of concern,” but as the King’s cancer was caught early, he believes His Majesty will make a full recovery.

“The King will be given access to the best treatment available,” said MacKenzie. “I’m sure everything will be scheduled as quickly as possible to make sure the cancer is dealt with and the King can be back on his feet in the not-too-distant future.”

The statement Monday from Buckingham Palace said the King began “a schedule of regular treatments” Monday and will be postponing public appearances but will continue to carry out state business and official paperwork as usual.

“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure,” the statement reads. “He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.”

What kind of cancer has not been released, but was discovered when he was recently treated for an unrelated benign enlarged prostate.

The royal family has gathered in support. Estranged son Prince Harry arrived Tuesday to reunite with his father, flying in from Los Angeles, and reportedly driven straight to Clarence House, the residence of the King and Queen.

From there, King Charles and Queen Camilla were reportedly driven to Buckingham Palace, then they boarded a helicopter to Sandringham estate in Norfolk, in their first public appearance since the diagnosis.

“The King doesn’t necessarily have age on his side, which makes quite a difference,” MacKenzie noted. “But generally his health is good and he has looked after himself. There’s no reason for alarm at this point.”

The King’s representative in New Brunswick, Lt. Gov. Brenda Murphy, took to social media to also extend her well wishes.

Our thoughts are with His Majesty King Charles III and his family as he begins cancer treatment. On behalf of all New Brunswickers, (partner) Linda (Boyle) and I extend our best wishes to His Majesty and hope for his speedy recovery,” she posted on X (formerly Twitter),.

Others, including Gov. Gen. Mary Simon and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have extended their own thoughts and wishes for a speedy recovery.
