After an eight-month delay of trial, three refugees from the Republic of Congo involved in an internet fraud scam to steal people's identities plead guilty in Miramichi's Court of Queen's Bench.

Jessica Sarah-Annie Mimeault, 20, Christopher Siembaba, 23, and Cheik Ibrahim Bamba, 22, pled guilty to everything including the most serious offense, the indictable charge of conspiracy to defraud.

They were found in possession of forged documents, including identification cards, banking debit cards, social insurance cards and driver's licenses, derived directly by the commission of an offence.

Originally charged with more than a dozen charges each, Crown Prosecutor Jean Guy Savoie withdrew the original charges and replaced them with five charges combining all individual crimes performed at various companies and businesses within the month of August 2007, including attempted fraud.

The two men and one woman pled guilty to knowingly using forged documents — a false identification in the name of Josee Daniel at the Royal Bank and Telus Mobility and Canada Post, as if it was genuine.

They also pled guilty to knowingly using forged documents to defraud Telus Mobility of a cell phone and service, the Royal Bank on Pleasant Street of money, and Canada Post of mail belonging to Daniel.

Finally, Siembaba, Mimeault, and Bamba pled guilty to attempting by deceipt to defraud several other banking companies — the Bank of Montreal, Toronto Dominion, and the Bank of Nova Scotia.

In addition, Siembaba, who was already on court orders dealing with another fraud, was charged on or about Aug. 30 with being at large on his undertaking when he was found in possession of a bank card in someone else's name.

Justice Roger McIntyre delayed sentencing until next year, May 1, the only time all lawyers were available at the same time.

Graham Sleeth is representing Mimeault, while Bamba and Siembaba's counsel is Marc Bourgeois.

The three individuals originally appeared in Miramichi provincial court over a year ago in custody.

The two men and one woman were arrested by Miramichi Police Force at a Telus Mobility store on King George Highway in August 2007 with Daniel's identification.

Mimeault and Bamba were released and went back to Ontario — Bamba on $10,000 bail and Mimeault on $2,000 bail, leaving Siembaba the last of the three accused still in custody.

Because of Siembaba's additional charge he was held in custody at that time. He was later released in 2008 on $2,000 bail and was asked to turn in his passport. All three signed a court order prohibiting them from using the internet and from being in possession of any ID not belonging to them.

wow, you're certainly a hillbilly for life. It's no wonder we can't attract anything to our region, the ignorance is just unreal.

More taxpayers dollars are wasted in healthcare looking after Canadian citizens who simply can't quit smoking or find it difficult not to go back for thirds at dinner time. Its not surprising that you don't kick up a similar fuss in the comments section of these articles.

It's also not surprising that you haven't commented on the threats to blow up the courthouse. It's a little tought to point your finger at fellow red-necks

How Jon Doe managed to tie smoking; obesity; and health care into my comments above is beyond me! Let me clarify this for all the other "Doe Doe's" out there: Refugee status in this country is a privilege, not a right! Should that right be abused as it was in this case, then bid all involved a heart felt "Toodilly Doo", as they set sail from whence they came. Statistics show we have plenty of felons and convicts (I believe Rednecks was the term you used!)of Canadian decent, lest we begin housing international thugs that come to our country in lieu of a "better life". We've been a refugee haven for far too long, all the while bending our laws; morals; and religious beliefs to suit the minorities. If this is your idea of attracting new residents to our area, I'm sure they could use a new sponsor...perhaps you could adopt them as Ennie, Mennie, and Miny Doe! Ignorance eh?...I think it just took on a whole new meaning. All aboard!!

You cried about tax dollars lost on refugee crimes, I replied by putting your comments into perspective alongside the multitude of other drains on our economy and tax dollars. I don't really see anything ignorant about that. If you were so concerned about lost tax dollars, I gave you a number of other things that you should be complaining about but fail to do so.

I recognize the wrongfulness of the acts, but if our government wants to solve our tax problems they aren't going to make crimes committed by individuals under refugee status their top priority. The above noted instance is an abysmal drop in the bucket compared to the senseless waste of tax dollars caused by true "patriots" such as yourself. If a response related to a topic you raise is over your head, try to think it over before you fire back with more inarticulate banter. Hopefully now you could understand why I respond with smoking and obesity to a comment based on the cost tax payers bear because of others' actions

C'mon John...the only "abysmal drop" here is this feeble literary attempt at twisting the issue at hand. Much like many of our judicial predecessors, you've chosen the guise of verbal musings as a means of deceiving Canadian citizens, conned into believing they're acting in our best interest! Immigration laws in this country must be revamped to include "expulsion on conviction" if we're to see any reprieve. In the meantime, "Captain Doe" has just qualified himself to pilot the next boat leaving for the Congo. Don't worry about your identity John...even these rogues wouldn't use it. Sadly, you wouldn't even make a good pirate!

I don't disagree with your last comment, but you still haven't addressed the tax issue that you were all worked up about earlier. If you could comapre me to judicial predecessors, a fair comparison for you would be the average Tim Horton's 'politician' who has it all figure out but never does anything to fix it; you just rant and rave.

I agree with Catfish.Immigrants who commit crimes should be deported-we have enough criminala of our own wasting taxpayer's money, we don't need them from other parts of the world. The court system is expensive -we pay for that-in addition to any welfare, language training, medicare, drugs provided to them. The immigrant who beheaded the young man on the Greyhound bus is receiving psychiatric treatment costing $1000 A DAY.Graham is spending $14.500 PER PERSON to RECRUIT 6000 immigrants. His buddies are rubbing their greedy hands together thinking about lining their pockets with tax money.England has cut back drastically on immigration because of resentment from citizens for putting people out of work during recession,& so manywere being sponsored it was impossible to track illegals.Smokers & Fat people pay lots of taxes,& they die young.Vancouver has a large foreign population & lots of problems with gangs fighting over drug trade, prostitution, fraud & theft. Learn from others' mistakes.
