War memories concert coming up Nov. 8

The Miramichi Folksong Festival Inc. and CUPE Local 865 will be hosting the annual War Memories in Song Dinner and Concert on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Beaverbrook Kin Centre. The show will be a tribute to Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan. An invitation has been sent to Colonel Ken Chadder, Commanding Officer of CFB Gagetown.

Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Menu is stuffed chicken breast, potatoes, vegetables, roll, apple, blueberry, banana cake with fudge glaze and cream, tea or coffee and fudge. Music will get under way at 7:45 p.m., with Kevin Driscoll, Gillis Family, Friends With Heart, Paula Foley and friends, Jimmy Lawlor, John Lordon and David Bunnell, Susan Butler and Barbara Somers.

There will be music from the war years as well as some more contemporary songs. Some of the tunes to be performed include "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree," "Lili Marlene," "White Cliffs of Dover," "Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream," "Soldier Boy," "Blowing in the Wind," "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" and "Song for Liberty."
