City council has to make decisions based on what is good for the city, says council candidate Chris Allison.
Allison, 45, is a former UPM worker and former president of CEP local 689.
People have to get over community divides and vote for what is good for Miramichi, he said.
"Not as one side or the other."
Allison said the city's leadership has to work together.
"There's no doubt in my mind it's not going to be easy."
The community and council have to work together for the people of the Miramichi, he said.
"I think that's what they want."
Allison said he decided to run because people asked him to.
"I figured maybe I should give it a try."
Councillors need to live with decisions that are made by the council, he said.
"Everybody has their opportunity to have their say."
And Allison said part of the democratic process means you sometimes lose votes, he said.
"You swallow your pride and say, ‘OK, let's move on.'"
Allison said he has no political affiliations to bring to the council table.
"I think a lot of people need to leave their political affiliations at the door of city hall."
