Letter to the editor | Get out and vote

This my first and probably my last letter to the editor. I wish to express my opinion on the importance of the upcoming municipal election on May 12. I urge the citizens of Miramichi to research the candidates running for mayor and council and to vote for the person you feel would do the best job for the betterment of the Miramichi.
You have an opportunity to put your city in order and take a positive direction in co-operation with the federal and provincial governments.
With the strong support and assistance of Premier Shawn Graham, Bill Fraser and the able John Foran, we have the best chance we have ever had to realize the full potential of the Miramichi.
The city is the hub of the north and we have a lot of untapped resources that can be developed: our river, tourism and our airport.
I don't live in the city, but I do all my business there. As the city goes, so go the outlying areas.
So get out and vote for a council that works for conciliation, not confrontation and when somebody asks where you are from, say with pride, "Miramichi City" (not Chatham or Newcastle).
Thanks,
Freeman Mohra
