Letter to the editor

A7

I would like to write and say how much I enjoy reading the Miramichi Leader. Having come from Ontario and living almost half my life in Toronto, I appreciate a good local paper like the Leader and the variety of topics it needs to cover in a small, but widespread community.

Having said that, I could not help having a small chuckle at the juxtaposition of two items that appeared in the Oct. 1 issue. On page two an article entitled " Fatkat fined for use of illegal software" has the file photo of company owner Gene Fowler, whose Fatkat animation studio was fined $36,000 for using illegal software. Then, in the Business Journal insert in the same paper, on page four is the same file photo of Mr. Gene Fowler as the recipient of the "NB CBDC 2008 Young Entrepreneur Award 2008" in which he credits the CBDC with supplying him the operating capital (this in bold print) and funds to buy equipment." Apparently, not enough capital to buy legal copies of software licences.

To quote Homer Simpson: "Doh".
