Pulamoo reign with 5-0 win over JMH
Published Monday October 6th, 2008

The Miramichi Valley Pulamoo completed the season sweep of the James M. Hill Tommies with a 5-0 win last night in the second Miramichi varsity girls soccer derby of the season.
The players played as much against the conditions as each other, with cold rain falling hard and steady throughout the match, making the pitch a soggy, muddy mess.
The Pulamoo had their first chance for glory in the second minute, on a free kick at the top of the box. Allison Turcotte would take it, clearing the box, but Tommies keeper Brittany O'Toole would make an impressive leaping save, falling in the mud after, but keeping the score 0-0.
MVHS would test O'Toole for most of the game as the JMH keeper was once again the best Tommie on the pitch.
The Pulamoo would finally solve her, however. With 15 minutes to play in the half, MVHS would get a throw in deep to the left of O'Toole. The ball would find its way to the box and to the foot of Morgan Matchett. A few moves later she'd get the shot and beat O'Toole to put the home side up 1-0.
In the 40th minute the Pulamoo would add to their lead. Continuing to pressure JMH, Emma Savard would get the ball on a rebound from O'Toole to make the score 2-0.
Matchett would then get her second two minutes later to put her team up 3-0.
The Pulamoo's fourth goal would come from a set piece. Turcotte would take an MVHS corner in the 45th minute, putting the ball on the foot of defender Sophie Manuel who crept in to score the fourth game of the contest.
Matchett would complete her hat trick in the 60th minute on a very nice cross from Julianna Hache to make the final 5-0.
The win is MVHS' second of the season defeating JMH 1-0 on their home pitch in the first derby game of the season.
The Pulamoo play again Monday when they host the Bathurst High School Phantoms beginning at 4:30 p.m.
