Letter to the editor | CCLA does not condone drugs

Ted Ross states, "As a parent, I consider any organization that condones drugs in schools to be infringing on my liberties."

Unfortunately for Ross, while he has some valid concerns, this type of freedom-from logic is not a principle of the legal system we use in this country. The Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA) does not, to my knowledge, condone drugs in schools, and neither do I. But this is no excuse for disrespecting the privacy rights of all school students as second-class citizens.

I'm sure if Ross was to be stopped and searched arbitrarily on the street for no valid reason, he may well want to contact the CCLA after all.

That's the stuff our ancestors fought overseas against.
