Asset Corner

A6

Check out the Douglastown Community Center on Sunday from 4-7p.m. Three bands will be in town to play for an all age crowd; the Fitzpatrick Incident from Toronto, Slain on Second Avenue from Riverview and Neverdie from Moncton.

This has been a joint effort with Antipromotions and the Miramichi Community Wellness and Recreation Department. For those youth who say there is nothing to do in the Miramichi this is a sure to be fun-filled event. From its conception this project has been youth and adults working together. We are very excited about the bands coming to Miramichi to exhibit their talents.

Of all the 40 developmental assets the one that has stood out the most for me as a parent and as a professional is asset number 3; other adult relationships. Youth need other adults besides their parents to turn to for advice and support. It is all about making strong connections and building strong relationships.

There are many ways to foster this developmental asset. We can consider being a mentor to a youth in our community. Also, we can talk to our youth about adults who have supported us when we were young. Youth are more likely to grow up healthy and productive when they have had positive adult role models in their lives.

To learn more about the all age's show or the 40 assets please call me at 623-2054 or email marylynn.jardine@miramichi.org.
