Our cardiac support group is a group of cardiac survivors who have recently completed the 10 week Cardiac Wellness Program at Region 7. We recognize the need for support and motivation from each other, having gone through similar experiences. We have also learned that a long term exercise program promotes a healthy heart. Healthy heart = lower health care cost! Unfortunately Region 7 Hospital has told us that due to liabilities and staffing it is impossible for them to allow us to use the gym at the hospital. We will be on a crusade asking for support ie: (room to exercise, equipment.)

Our group plans to meet once a month offering anyone who has been touched by heart disease a chance to set in and participate. At some time in everyone's life you will be touched by heart disease — maybe you, family or friend by discovering the onset of heart disease, risk factors, angio, by-pass surgery, etc.

A cardiac event changes you and your life forever. Being fortunate enough to walk away you must now begin the process of lifestyle changes. When leaving the security of the hospital you usually now have a fistful of prescriptions — you're not quite sure what they're for but they will "keep you alive". You are overwhelmed with the information you received, scared of having another cardiac event, unable to return to work, and dependent on others for their support.

The aftermath of a cardiac event can leave you feeling depressed.

We would like to have our first meeting concentrate on depression. A very real, very tough to accept topic. We will be meeting on December 10, 6 - 8 p.m. at the Highland Theatre, Region 7. The guest speaker will be William Gunn, MHC.

We hope to welcome all of you to our group.
