Jr. Ironmen fall 8-2 to Jr. Royals

JUNIOR BASEBALL — The Chatham Junior Ironmen lost at home Wednesday night 8-2 against the Fredericton Junior Royals in New Brunswick Junior Baseball League action.
Despite a good pitching effort from brothers Darren and Brandon Augustine, the Ironmen were unable to generate enough consistent offense or defense to prevent the loss.
Darren Augustine started on the mound for Chatham, taking the loss after throwing for two innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and recording one strikeout.
Brother Brandon came on in relief for five innings, allowing two unearned runs on one hit, with seven walks and four strikeouts. Twice the older Augustine found himself in trouble with the bases loaded, but the Ironmen were able shutdown the Royals and end the threats.
The Royals hitters were led by Jeff Morehouse, who had an RBI double in the first and a home run in the second. David Crossman had a double and a single in the first two innings, with Scott MacFarlane adding a double, Scott Brown with two singles and Troy Bishop with a single.
Bishop started for the Royals, going 3.1 innings, allowing two runs on three hits, with one walk and two strikeouts. Matt Wood took over in the fourth and got the win after pitching 3.2 innings and allowing no runs on three hits, with one walk and four strikeouts.
Willi Stymiest led the Ironmen offense with a single and a double, while Orry Cook, Matt Montrose, Justin Cormier and Brandon Augustine added a single each.
The next game for the Junior Ironmen is at Ironmen Field on Saturday, July 5, a doubleheader against the Lancaster Expos, starting a 1 p.m.
