Tryouts for the Canada Basketball Center for Performance Western POD basketball program will be held Sunday, Nov. 23.

The girls tryout takes place from 12:30-3 p.m. The boys goes from 3-5:30 p.m.

A second girls' tryout on Monday, Nov. 24 from 6-8 p.m. for any girls unable to attend the Sunday tryout.

These tryouts will be held at Devon Middle School located at 681 Dobie Street in Fredericton.

POD is a regional training program designed to help identify and develop players for next season's Team NB. Players selected for training receive a minimum of 12 hours of on-court instruction focusing on the individual and team offensive skills. Sessions are run by apprentice coaches from Nike Center for Performance program, which is a grass roots development program created by Canada Basketball. POD training wraps up with a showcase tournament in the spring.

The fees for POD are $20 for tryouts and if selected $120 for participation in the program.

For $120 the players receive the following:

• 12 hours of on-court skill development sessions (November to April);

• Basketball New Brunswick Apparel

• Free admission to the BNB Showcase Tournament.

There will be two age groups for each POD:

A U17 group that feeds into the U17/U16 provincial teams group at the Showcase, and a U15 group that feeds into the U15/U15Dev provincial team group at the Showcase.

The U17/U16 group will have a maximum of six spots that will qualify for the Spring showcase and the U15/U15 Development kids will have 12 spots.

The try-outs are open to boys and girls born from 1991 to 1995.

Players selected from the try-outs will participate in workouts through the winter months and then can attend the Provincial Showcase tournament in June. From this showcase the provincial U15 Dev, U15, U16 and U17 teams will be chosen.

Player registration will take place 30 minutes prior to first session.
